For a handyman enquiry containing several jobs, record each task separately before calculating a total. Give shelves, doors and other work their own quantities and material responsibilities. A shared total or guessed labour time can hide the work you actually need to price.

A realistic enquiry
Illustrative enquiry: a customer wants two shelves installed and one internal door adjusted in the same visit. They supply the shelves but are unsure about brackets. Record two shelf installations, one separate door task and unresolved fixing materials. Three jobs is not a useful quantity for every catalogue line.
What to collect and check
- Create a separate description for each task and ask for its exact count where the count matters.
- Collect dimensions, product links and ordinary photos for relevant items. Let the customer mark unknown wall or fixing details as not sure.
- Record who supplies the main items, brackets, fixings and other materials without assuming that customer-supplied includes everything.
- Check whether each price is per item, per job, per visit or per hour.
- Keep labour time unknown where the business needs to assess it. Item count is not a substitute for hours.
- List work requiring another appropriately qualified trade and keep it outside the handyman quote unless separately arranged.
Keep the pre-quote scope checklist beside the enquiry and compare what to look for in quoting software when choosing your process.
Use one enquiry, with distinct tasks
One customer link can collect the whole request, but the quote still needs separate scope. A later answer of two shelves must not become the count for a door task. Keep the original notes and each clarification together. This makes it easier to check the draft and explain any exclusions.
Avoid multiplying the wrong unit
Two shelves may correspond to two per-shelf installation items, one per-job package or an hourly estimate reviewed by the business. The catalogue's unit decides how the rate is used. If the work is too uncertain for a fixed price, explain the assessment or estimating step instead of converting the count into invented labour.
Where Ash helps
Ash can help organise the customer's tasks and prepare a draft against the business's work items. The business reviews quantities, pricing units, materials and the work it is equipped to undertake. Try the handyman enquiry demonstration to see the customer capture and the prepared quote from the business side.
Before you approve the quote
Check that the quote preserves both tasks, leaves bracket supply unresolved until agreed, and uses each rate correctly. Explain the appointment scope and how additional work will be discussed before it is undertaken.
